Whoops so I saw Pheoniic do this a few weeks ago and it seemed fun so I promptly started filling it out with my main characters and then sort of forgot about finishing it. But here it finally is in all its glory!
I must confess that part of the reason I didn't finish this so quickly is that it took me forever to draw those little face icons. Because apparently I am terrible at drawing my own characters, even after I've made reference sheets for them. *Hangs head in shame.* I'm glad I got these done though, because who knows, I might find some other use for them at some point. You never know when little face icons of your characters will come in handy, right?
Anyway this was a pretty fun meme to do, although I must say I was a bit conflicted on many of the categories because I was like "well that depends on the situation". I tried to position the characters based on how they are in the majority of cases, but don't expect them to act exactly the same 100% of the time.
A few specific notes!
- Sex: Purithyan faeries don't reproduce sexually (they are literally personified magic) so I suppose they don't actually have sexual organs, which is why I put Mable in the middle. But I never think about my characters' genitals so I guess I can't say for sure.
- Height: I couldn't decide which way to do this because of the different species represented here, so I listed them two different ways. Although Mable and Mel are the shortest of the bunch, they're actually pretty tall for their species so I thought I should point this out. Also Buzzy is a total shrimp for his age and is often mistaken for being younger.
- Intelligence/wisdom: I was really glad that this meme differentiated these because they're often lumped together but there is quite a bit of variation in these two areas with my characters (except Ken who apparently is just stupid on all accounts). However I did change "wisdom, cleverness" to just "wisdom" because I don't really think they're the same thing (if anything I think cleverness is closer to intelligence, not wisdom).
- Education level: None of these characters have even formally graduated high school - even the oldest, Sandalio, left school when he was 15 and most of his education is self-taught. Larry hasn't been formally educated since 14 and even then it was with private tutors rather than an actual school. However I placed him further to the right since he would have been studying at a higher level than Sandalio ever got to because, you know, child prodigy and all that.
- Gender appearance: Somebody else should probably answer this for me because I never really know if my characters look the gender they're meant to, harr. One thing worth noting though is that ponytails are more common on men in their world than in ours (especially among sailors) so Ken's hairstyle isn't considered particularly girly or anything.
- Sexuality: Yeah . . . this is so irrelevant to this story that I don't even determine sexualities for the characters. Unlike some authors, I have this kind of philosophy that if something can't be known by the readers, then I shouldn't know it either. Since sex is never talked about in the story, there's no reason for me to know this aspect of the characters. Honestly the only characters from this story whose sexualities I'm fairly certain about are two not featured in this meme who I'm pretty sure are asexual, harr.
- Lawfulness: This one was kind of tricky because they are pirates so obviously they're all lawless in that sense. So I basically took this as "lawfulness in areas other than piracy" so that there'd actually be a spectrum.
You may also notice that I replaced three of the categories: the two romance-related ones because, like sexuality, they're really not relevant to the story; and the insanity one, because I wasn't sure if it was meant to be like "this character is weird" or "this character has a mental illness" and I didn't really feel comfortable about that ambiguity.
. . . Well I guess I'll shut up now. If you managed to read through all of that or even look through the entire meme, you deserve a pat on the back. But I'll have to get Kari or Sandalio to give it to you because I'm pretty much Larry on the affection spectrum.
